As the bitter cold weather rolls in, find ways to cut back on your energy usage while still staying warm this winter.
Unplug Appliances Not In Use:
This can include anything from televisions and video game consoles, to microwaves, coffeemakers and cell phone chargers. Even unplugging your washer and dryer can be a great way to save. You can also make use of multiple power strips throughout your home, which make it easier to unplug several devices at once.
Turn Down Your Thermostat:
Did you know you can save up to 15% per year on your energy bills by turning your thermostat down to 56 degrees when you leave the house for the day? And, after investing in some cozy flannel sheets and a warm comforter, you can save up to 10% on energy by turning your thermostat down 10 to 15 degrees at night.
Hold in the Heat:
Make sure your home is properly insulated and all windows and doors are well sealed. Covering bare floors with rugs is a quick and easy way to hold heat in as well. Feel free to leave your curtains open during the day to allow the sun to warm your house, but make sure to close them at night to keep the cold out.
Lock In Your Energy:
Shopping around for an energy supplier can also be a great way to ensure you’re protected from the increased energy pricing that the cold weather brings. At BlueRock, we offer you a chance to lock in your electricity and/or natural gas at a low fixed energy price – meaning you’ll pay the same rate per kilowatt hour/therm each month. Switching to a fixed energy plan is an effective way to gain predictability on your energy bills and know you’re protected from potential price spikes.
